Shortage of Pathologists

About a billion slides generated annually around the globe. In 2017 less than 1% of them was scanned. In 2021 the percentage was around 10%. This will delay even more the diagnostic process for patients that will not even be diagnosed. Moreover, by 2030 the number of active pathologists will drop by 30% aprox. compared to 2010 numbers, resulting in a gap between supply and demand of 6.000 pathologists.

Still using 150-year-old methods

Current diagnostic approaches in pathology are manual, slow and inefficient, taking up to 40 minutes per slide. The foundations of pathology analysis have not changed for over 150 years. Digital technologies must help the field to improve and to become more efficient and more scalable.

KOMOMBO assists in spotting shapes, patterns and the relative location of objects on image through computer vision.

This annotated input is read by the specialist, reducing the time spent on the monotonous and repetitive task of counting cells and searching for traces of illness. Instead, they can analyze the traces spotted by KOMOMBO that will be ready to confirm.

Data is kept in the original server

Our experts leverage data science techniques to treat distributed data within the hospital’s local server, avoiding centralizing data and compromising GDPR compliance. This ensures that the institution keeps the complete ownership of data.

Our goal is not to only allow the usage of the platform but to use their data together and jointly enrich the pathology portfolio getting to help more patients everyday around the world.

Alvaro Ortín

CEO

CEO and Founder at Enzyme Advising Group, Alvaro is a computer engineer, MBA and PDG, trained at UAB, UPC and IESE. Founding partner of CSIC ISOCO (Intelligent Software Components) spin-off and partner at different consulting companies, he has worked in many sectors and companies accumulating more than 25 years of experience in technology.

Jorge Juan Fernández

Managing Director

Jorge has more than 20 years of experience. He has been Director of E-Health within the Innovation Department at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona, Director of Moebio and Director of Innovation of EIT Health. Today he is Venture Partener at Nina Capital and regularly acts as advisor and mentor to healthcare and life sciences startups and entrepreneurial acceleration programs across Europe.

Anna Rosés Martí

Coming from FMCG and Pharma companies, Anna has worked at different departments in multinational business moving from Product Manager and Key Account Manager to Pharma eCommerce Manager. Currently, she focuses her efforts on business strategy and digitalization. She holds an International Master in Management from EADA and a Master of Internet Businesses from ISDI.

José Antonio is CTO and Head of Architecture at Enzyme. Technical visionary with a deep knowledge of technology and its aplication, he has lead innovation and digital transformation projects. In the past few years he has entered the AI applied to health in order to improve people’s quality of life.

CSO

César is a computer engineer graduated from the University of Seville, with more than 20 years of experience as a business and functional consultant in the healthcare sector. He has led projects for the public and private sector both in Spain and internationally, always seeking to provide innovative solutions that have a real impact on improving patient care.
